Introduction

Adobe Design is seeking an intern to join the Spectrum team here in San Francisco, California. The Spectrum team is managing Adobe’s design system(Spectrum) which powers all products across Adobe’s entire ecosystem(Creative Cloud, Document Cloud, Experience Cloud, Adobe.com website, etc.) and on all platforms(Mac, Windows, iPhone, iPad, Android, web). The Spectrum team is focused on the creation and documentation of the Spectrum design language, the creation of tools for designers and engineers to work with Spectrum, and the coordination with engineering teams implementing Spectrum on multiple frameworks and libraries.

This is your opportunity to work on a large scale design system which powers hundred of products–some you might already use.

We are seeking a design/engineer hybrid intern. One who can visually conceive an experience in high fidelity quickly and make this experience come to life in code afterward. One who understands user needs and is passionate about addressing them.

Our ideal candidate is one who is familiar with design tools(Adobe XD, Sketch, Figma, etc.) as well as knowledgable of HTML, CSS, Javascript, REACT. Someone who is also familiar with web standards and accessibility requirements.

What you’ll be working on

  • Learn the ins-and-outs of Adobe’s design system(Spectrum).
  • Research and understand international Accessibility standards.
  • Assess Spectrum documentation of Accessibility practices and choices.
  • Identify users’ needs and understanding in regards to Accessibility.
  • Design one or more interactive playgrounds documenting Spectrum Accessibility’s choices.
  • Work alongside the design team to merge playgrounds with official documentation.
  • Prototype these interactive playgrounds in REACT and validate design assumptions.
  • Test experiences with users and iterate based on feedback.
  • Work alongside the engineering team to integrate playgrounds on the Spectrum website.

What you’ll bring to the team

  • Enrolled in a college degree program, preferably in design with an emphasis on graphic design, HCI, or related field
  • Proficient knowledge of Adobe XD, or other design tools such as Sketch, Figma, etc.
  • Experience with motion design and prototyping.
  • Proficient knowledge of HTML, CSS, Javascript, REACT.
  • Interest in Accessibility standards and its impact on design practices at scale.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Willingness and ability to contribute to the creative spirit of the team during your internship.
  • Love of all things design.
