Introduction

Adobe’s Design Research & Strategy Team is seeking a strong intern who wants to learn the role of user research in assisting the Experience Cloud product design team with strategic decision making for new and existing products. This internship will allow a Masters or PhD student to use their research training while gaining first-hand experience with the product development process at a large software company.

We’re looking for candidates that have coursework focused on human-centered research practices and who are interested in conducting research and design that demonstrates a user-centered focus. Students with an awareness of marketing and business or communications could also be considered. As part of our research team, the qualified candidate will work directly with designers, content strategists, and product managers to define research plans and conduct primary research to address key questions about our users and their workflows. Relevant recommendations and ideas from research studies will be put into action by our design and product teams.

What you’ll be working on

This role focuses on research topic areas that are related to Digital Marketing and Marketing Technologies. This means that you will be responsible for thinking horizontally and exploring areas related to coordinated workflows across our digital marketing and data analysis products. You will get to work alongside expert researchers in partnership with a variety of different Adobe teams, including product management, development, design, customer experience and more.

What you’ll bring to the team

Must-Haves

  • Enrolled as a full-time student in sociology, social psychology, organizational psychology, applied psychology, experimental psychology, HCI, strategic design & management, or related fields.
  • A reasonable knowledge of either qualitative or quantitative research methods and a clear understanding of when and why to use these different methods.
  • At least some experience putting these methods into practice including developing a realistic research plan and materials, recruiting participants, and synthesizing data into findings.
  • Ability to assess a project’s scope, determine appropriate research questions, and identify and appropriate research method.
  • A strong systems thinker who embraces complexity.
  • Comfortable speaking up and sharing ideas in a group setting, even when others might have conflicting ideas/needs.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience with web analytics, marketing, advertising, or e-commerce solutions such as Adobe’s Experience Cloud (Adobe Experience Manager, Target, Analytics, Campaign, Primetime, etc.) or its competitors.
  • Able to demonstrate the use of multiple methods in your work. Bonus points for conducting both qualitative and survey research.
  • Concrete examples from working in an applied or industry setting (does not have to be tech specifically).
  • Experience working with designers and/or using product or service design synthesis methods such as journey maps, service blueprints, or concept brainstorming.
  • Ability to articulate research findings through clear and insightful presentations that demonstrate a keen sense of storytelling and visual communication.
