We are a cheerful team of Design Strategists that specialize in the domain between business problem and user need. We’re passionate about tackling gnarly problems that yeild outsized impact. We are looking for someone with experience leading teams through design strategy projects.

What you’ll do

As a Senior Design Strategist, you will lead projects to tackle problems that span products, platforms, and business units. That means the space might be new, or the user needs might require clarification. We collaborate with people across the company to discover business needs, learn what other folks are doing in the industry, and identify what our customers truly desire. We then get to the fun work of ideation. Our work usually culminates in customer-ratified concepts and prototypes, along with a whole lot of executive presentations. This is big idea work that is highly visible!

The successful candidate will be a leader who excels in bringing structure to ambiguity, who is both collaborative and proactive in nature. You’ll take the lead in early-stage strategy work: defining the project and approach, through testing prototypes with customers or presenting the work around the company — all in service of delivering polished strategy, told in compelling stories and experience concepts that will build momentum around the ideas.

What you need to succeed

  • You love ambiguous problems and can create clear and concise design strategy. You thrive in making the complex simple and digestible.
  • You are practiced at translating insight into design opportunities within constraints.
  • You are confident and flexible and have experience leading interdisciplinary teams where harmonious collaboration is imperative.
  • You are comfortable presenting to C-suite executives and working alongside and VP leaders throughout your process.
  • You are able to guide the design process from framing a challenge, to research and insights, to concept and implementation.
  • Your work is grounded in insights about people. You’ve applied your skills to real-world human problems (not just artistic or academic exercises).
  • You are comfortable defining the right approach and plan for a project and leading teams throughout the design process.
  • You speak in a visual language. You’ve got a knack for succinctly capturing thoughts and expressing them to others. You have a strong design voice and point of view on where to go and why.
  • You are an excellent communicator with phenomenal instincts about how to synthesize and tell a captivating story, build a deep rapport, and give honest feedback.
  • You easily switch from macro to micro; from understanding the strategic value and business dynamics of an organization’s product or service, to caring about visual design at a pixel or message level.

Requirements

  • 8-10 years of professional experience in your field, or a graduate degree and 5+ years of professional experience
  • Ability to work in San Francisco
