The opportunity

Are you seeking an educational summer internship experience that taps your academic research skills to solve real strategic problems in the tech industry? This is it! Adobe’s Design Research & Strategy (ADRS) Team is searching for a research intern to gather customer insights for software product design focused on new product offerings, product ecosystems, organizational challenges faced by our customers, and expanding our customer base. We gather data from people of all types, from new learners to large organizations with widespread needs across all of our businesses.

We seek students enrolled full-time in psychology (social, organizational, cognitive, applied, or experimental), sociology, HCI, strategic design & management, marketing, business, or communications. Ideal candidates have coursework focused on human-centered research practices and a passion for user-centered research and design. Graduate-level students are preferred, but we accept 4th year undergraduates with research experience. Our real-world work experiences use your student knowledge and insights to tackle tough problems while interacting directly with other researchers, product designers, content strategists, product managers and developers to define research plans and explore key questions. Your research recommendations and ideas about our users will be put into action by our design and product teams.

About the Team The ADRS team uses behavioral observations and data to craft a user-centered foundation for product design and development. Our researchers are a group of highly engaged, critical problem solvers who have studied in a wide range of fields. We make our work impactful by building deep cross-functional partnerships across the organization and encouraging trust in both our process and our insights.

What you’ll bring to the team

This job includes uncovering key user insights and having the communication skills to turn those insights into impactful, relevant ideas for the product.

We seek research interns who:

  • are self-starters with strong organizational, planning, and leadership skills

  • are active listeners with good observational skills who happily set aside their own assumptions and consider multiple perspectives

  • have a drive for growth and learning with a keen interest in people and how they think

  • are inquisitive, pull problems apart, and articulate clear research objectives

  • can build open and positive relationships with both collaborators and research participants

  • are comfortable speaking up and sharing ideas in a group setting, even when facing conflicting ideas or needs or speaking to a large audience

    Additionally, we look for:

  • a knowledge of qualitative or quantitative behavioral research methods and a clear understanding of when and why to use these different methods

  • an ability to assess the scope and impact of a research project, determine appropriate research questions, and plan a research approach that includes relevant materials, recruiting, and synthesizing data

Finally, we seek communicators who are able to build compelling reports and slide decks that are visually appealing, tell a good story, and are empirically accurate. Experience with synthesis and collaboration methods such as journey maps, service blueprints, or concept brainstorming are welcomed. A plus would be prior experience with web analytics, digital marketing, advertising, or e-commerce solutions.

How to apply

To be considered for this role please submit a resume (including course of study and expected graduation date). If selected for an interview, a summary of past research experience will be required. We love hearing examples of observational research work done in an applied or industry setting (doesn’t have to be in technology), and are open to a variety of perspectives.
